It was almost Pointless

So I have had the good fun that comes with getting to know yourself. In other-words a dry spell. Years without a boyfriend and when this is the case people begin to ask well what is it about me that is so grating that no one wants to cling to me. there must be desperate people out there who are willing to date me no mater what. I know there must be because I have reached the point of desperation where I cannot recall what it was like to have someone like you.

For a week or so someone did like me and I liked him and suddenly he liked someone else. So I remember what is is like to like someone at least.

Movie Review: 007 Skyfall

Yes, I finally saw a movie before everyone else. I went to an IMax Movie premier which was on a Wednesday night. And suffice it to say I was the only person who had never liked a James Bond movie before who was there. Actually I was one of the few people there at all. The movie had maybe 30 people in it. But that is ok.

Skyfall had a predictable plot twist. A kind of Dark Knight theme to it. With a Joker like villain. But they did it well, in their own fashion. Apparently the James Bond way is a very unique way. I was wrong, and I feel ashamed for admitting, that Mission impossible was just an american version of 007. But I was wrong only because of the 50 year history the Bond movies have. If you want an homage to the old movies you've got it in Skyfall. A little bit of James Bond history is scattered here and there. If you want a villain with a gruesome back-story, Skyfall is your movie. Cool special effects. Got um.

I project that everyone will like the movie. Once it is over. The running time is almost 3 hours. halfway through the movie I was looking forward to the explosions in the end. There was a severe lack of explosions early in on the movie. The Chase scenes were fantastic and the gadgets were lacking in numbers but ok in effectiveness. 

So basically I went to the wrong midnight showing. Rule for anyone going to see Skyfall tonight. Do not take your girlfriends. Bryce Massey made it abundantly clear that I was stepping on man parts by being there. 

I got a poster though. That was cool. 

1977 and Social Media

It has come to my attention that not all times before I was born were evil. I believed up until a short time ago that the 80's were spawned from the devil. But in reality the 80's were spawned from 1977.

Annie came out as a stage musical in '77

1977 was filled with all kinds of changes. Firstly, my dad graduated from High school. Now Paul Chatfield graduating did not happen first really. But it is why I chose this year. If anyone is more knowledgeable about his own life than a history teacher who loves to know things, I'll chose his graduating year. but until then...
The first woman was ordained an Episcopal priest. The worlds first personal computer was demonstrated in Chicago. The largest woman conference since the turn of the century was held. And Meryl Streep debuted on the silver screen.

In reality it seems more happened  in social media than happened in any other category that year. Sure gas was less expensive than eggs that year and Carter was president. But how can these things compare to Star Wars Opening!?

Star Wars was going to make money even though it was considered a low budget film. People likes to go to the movies. Close Encounters of the third Kind also came out that year. People liked space movies. What Lucas didn't realize was that people would like a space movie with a campy western plot.

Now Saturday Night Fever,the dance movie. The thing is music was doing some crazy stuff in the 70's, rather like the drugs people were on. The wealthy hated rock and the rockers hated pop rock. Rock was saturated into the public and the real rockers needed the 6 minute rock ballad to satisfy their artistic needs. These real rockers were called super groups. They were trained musicians who wanted art. So there was a great divide in '77 between the dancers and the rockers. Motown satisfied the dancers for a little but you really couldn't dance to it. So when the Bee Jee's strayed from their original sound and did disco the prayers of millions of dance starved people were answered! Stayin' Alive rocked the world from then on! And people started singing again!

But the world was not all music and movies. Television played a major role in peoples homes. M.A.S.H. a popular T.V. show still had been running for a while but the climate for veterans was pretty bad. WE had lost the recent war M.A.S.H was a nice relief of that tension as well as a way for the public to relate to the veterans.

Movie Review: A Three-year-olds Perspective on Wreck-it-Ralph

 I wanted so badly to hate this movie. As a matter of fact I did. I thought it was boring, taught children to stay in line and made me feel like I had a sugar tooth ache in the end. But my Nephew Jack Flanagan got a hold of that information and he would have none of it. You see he could not believe that I did not like it. I told him that I did not like bugs, and that is why I did not like the movie. While it is true the bugs were a terrible part of the movie because they did nothing but inter fear with the plot and pander to younger audiences, my nephew merely responded with, "Oh. I do." Meaning that he likes bugs.

This gave me an idea. Maybe the movie was not meant for me.

 I was shocked by this idea. And I still do not agree with it. But I do not like when my nephew and I disagree. I agree with him on all the important things like pirates, Spiderman, Toy Story and cake. So I want to take another look at the movies he likes. I grew to like Cars, as did most of the american populace. I am sure that was on the recommendation of Jack. I'll get back to you on the details. Relateable Post

Often times I think about how alone people are. Most people would conciser themselves alone because no one is as loved as they need to be. If you are reading this and you are lucky enough to be perfectly loved I want you to look around, past your circle of infinite acceptance and find the most unlikable person you can and invite them into your circle.

This has Christian undertones and certainly depressing qualities but please think. Just think. Don't... don't count your blessings or try to fix anything. Just be honest. Nobody deserves to live.

I am often told to improve myself. To make everything better with this mental exerciser or that. But it will never fix my loneliness. My overwhelming infinite loneliness that could only be filled as a child with thousands of imaginary people populating my toys, my life, my mind. I wish I had something profound to say. I always used to try to have something profound to say. I thought it might make me a more interesting person that people might love. But alas. You can make no one love you. You can make no one trust you. You can make no one see you. All you have is luck. That dang stupid luck that socialization, skill and  parenting brought you.

It is no mistake that I have only had one friend in the coarse of my life. She hates the pressure of being my only friend. And I hate putting her in that position. But every day I find more people who hate me for who I am. More reasons why I am screwed up.

A bunch of crap has happened to me. And I have acted as a catalyst for that crap. Therefore crap likes me and gravitates toward me. Meanwhile the people around me get the preferential treatment of the universe. No one has died. Most people are happily married and it seems that everyone has had the same fiends since the 6th grade.

I have hurt every minute of every day since 2010. I have no secret message. No hopeful end. Nothing to gain from this post. I just want you all to be happy. I want you all to live well and to learn that people hurt sometimes. And sometimes that hurt cannot be fixed.   

When I Grow Up

When I grow up I want to write reviews. Well I want to be read. I describe it that way because who I am goes into everything I write. I feel like if I learn how to make my writing less disjointed, more intelligent and insightful that I will become those things right along with it. Movie Review: Frankenweenie

I was not originally intending to go see Tim Burton's Frankenweenie but one of the reviewers said it was "his freshest idea since [bla dee bla bla.]" I thought "challenge accepted." I wanted to see how a black and white short that Burton filmed long before Nightmare Before Christmas could be made into a "fresh film."

This film (with a difficult to spell title) is your basic boy loves dog story. But with a Burton twist you also have to learn to accept death, accept things that have come back from death AND save Jimmy from the burning building. However a midst love there is a ton of action that keeps the movie going all the way through to the end. A good Halloween flick for children, if violence and truly horrifying monsters are your thing.

There were many details that didn't seem to be necessary to the film. For instance the movie takes place in 1950's New Holland and has a Dutch Day celebration. I can see the 1950's perfection and fear of the strange being a factor, it certainly was in Burton's short, but it did nothing to strike particular fear into peoples hearts since the first thing that was "different" in the town was a 7 story man eating turtle. Are they trying to say that even the Dutch would be afraid if this monstrosity? I had no idea the Dutch were so brave.

But the senseless detail that I was most excited about was that the main character Victor (at least the second main character Burton had named victor in the last 10 years) was a film maker. I though Hooray! this might be Burton's autobiography of sorts. But alas victor put down his camera and picked up his lab coat as soon as the movie got started.

Tim Burton has named two main characters Victor in the last eight years.

Then there is of coarse filler. Unless you cram the plot of a short with pointless plot then you must fill it with pointless action. When other children attempt to revive their pets (for a school science fair that never happens) their pets turn into unspeakably terrible monsters that are then easily defeated.

I did like however the consistencies Burton made with the original Frankenstein story. The dog went through an emotional journey of loneliness fear and misunderstanding. It was a good introduction to the monster movie for children and will teach them the basic ideas of Frankenstein. Like how the doctors name is Frankenstein not the Monsters.  Come on people!

Fresh? I think not. Good? Perhaps. But overall it is not on my recommendations list.

Movie Review: Pitch Perfect

Three words. I. Love. PitchPerfect.

This movie was a perfect blend of awkward moments relate able problems and amazing music! The relocatable problems are just so the movie has some substance, which every movie that I review well needs. But slapstick and a good use of cast rock all over this musical movie.

Kay Cannon wrote this movie and has been a writer and producer for 30 Rock. She claims that this is a movie for the female audience although she did not mean it to be. I personally believe it is a date movie that will get everybody excited and talking about it for days. Let alone, you know, the next hour of ice cream after a date. Maybe it is not a date movie then. You might want to get to know your date before you rock out to this movie. Good for you, getting to know your date.

Rebel Wilson had an AMAZING character written for her and I am sure she will have coined a few phrases by the time this movie hits DVD. But she was just one of the many well cast well portrayed comedy figures in this movie. I would go see this movie again just for the group of crazy girls that fight gossip pull hair and kick tuckus.

music.

Yes the music is addicting. The current pop obsession with a capella music is mixed perfectly with just the pop music. Throughout the movie the main vocal group the Bellas performs lame old man music around the pluthera of nerdy awesome stuff.


Ester Dean is not an actress but she plays a hilarious lesbian. Who is she then? She writes music! Mr. Know it all by Kelly Clarkson is just one of her many hits. She gets to sing her own stuff and be an amazing character. Like so many of the others.

Go see this movie.

Having a Haunted Holiday: Scary Movies by Carlaberry

I love Halloween. Always have. Always will. But the reasons will change as I get older and less prone to awesome. So I must pass my love on to future generations and the imaginary people who read my blog. First I would like to share how to waste your time during midterms month. Watch scary movies.

This is not to say that scary movies are the only way to waste your time in October but it sure is the best. If you gather a bunch of friends or even a large pillow you can have a grand old time cuddling and screaming and being generally unnaturally freaked.

The only way to really celebrate the month of October for me is watching anything creepy, suspenseful  ghost-filled or even horrifying.

Monster Movies

These movies seem to impact our culture a great deal. Everybody loves a good monster! Why? I know but I'll just list some movies. (mocking Ha ha while I type) :)

Edward Scissor Hands is a monster movie. Yes yes it is. If you have ever read Frankenstein than you know that Edward Scissor hands is just another portrayal of a misunderstood creature looking for love. But he is instead met with fear and hate. So in other words he gets his own blib because I can never ever watch that movie without crying my eyes out ant then sleeping with the light on.... yeahhhh

Harry Potter is not a moster movie. I just think he is develishly handsome. 

Children's Movies

Childrens Halloween movies are great in number. Mostly because of the combination of Disney and Burton trying to make money off of the beginning of the Holiday season. So some of the movies are stinky, some of them rock and some of them actually uplift me and make me happy. Here is a list. (Deep breath)

Romney V. Obama: The Tax Return Story

I have been following CNN as of late to recapture my love for all things media. Instead I learned about Romney's tax returns. While a newsworthy lack of free information I have been hearing the same three things over and over again. Here is a list for those of you who don't want to waste your time.

1. Romney only released the last 2 years of Tax Returns.

2. Romney refuses to release more

While this information is invigorating and rehashing it over and over again will urge the presidential candidate to continue to do as he likes the surrounding effects of this refusal are actually quite fascinating. Gov. Romney has a history of politics in his family. His "Dad" as the press is calling him released 10 or 12 years of returns when he ran for Governor of Michigan (the position Mitt now holds.) Obama has urged Romney to follow in Daddy's footsteps and do the same.  George W. Romney was also a devout member of the Mormon church and a great business man. Mitt seems to have followed in the footsteps of his father and none of this information would have seemed pertinent nor even have come out of the shadows of ignorance without this supposed tax scandal.

He panders to the people suffering from the worst of the economy and makes it sound as though tax returns will keep Romney from caring about us little people. Real smooth Obama campaign.

Obama released his Tax returns his first time around in the election ride. His date back all the way to the year 2000. Most of his voters hadn't started paying taxes until 2009 (so that must have seemed like forever!) But most presidential candidates have been releasing this amount of information since the 70's. So it was less like Obama did something right and more like Romney is breaking tradition.

 I personally don't care why Romney is being so stubborn but his running mate Paul Ryan makes me nervous.
He seems to have become the face of the Romney campaign. I never knew this much about Biden. So I want to know even more about this Ryan Character.
